Care Instructions

First, thank you for considering or purchasing my artwork!

Pyrography is a beautiful and unique medium but can change over time due to the natural wood canvasses used. This is inevitable and I like to be open and honest about what may happen.

This little owl is one I burned onto a small scrap piece of Sycamore wood as an experiment. It has NO Ultra-Violet protection but was kept away from direct sunlight. You can see some small changes in the details as they have been lost to the wood itself. But in my opinion still looks adorable.

But good news! There are some ways to help keep things looking their best!

General Care

1. Keep out of direct sunlight

UV is the number one bane of many pyrographers as it causes works to fade. To help minimise this, I burn portraits slightly darker than needed and seal them with UV resistant lacquer where applicable.

2. Keep away from intense heat sources.

Prolonged exposure to heat can cause the wood to split and crack.

3. Keep away from moisture and high humidity

Excessive moisture can penetrate into the wood causing discolouration. The lacquer I apply will also help to prevent this.

4. Clean with a clean, dry microfibre cloth only to remove dust buildup

Functional Items

I do create some items that are designed for everyday use as I believe art shouldn't just hang on a wall. Every piece is handmade with care but needs some additional TLC as well the general care to preserve its use.

Keyrings:

Designed for light use only to preserve the artwork.

Regularly check the metal pin is inserted into the wood.

Chopping Boards:

Hand wash only - do not soak or put in the dishwasher.

Retreat once every few months with food-safe mineral oil. Please do not use cooking / olive oil as it will go rancid.
